Important! Read these instructions before using PDA Safe

Starting the Application

Click on the PDA Safe icon. You are offered two options:

  • Encrypt database
  • Decrypt database

Check the appropriate box and push the Continue button.

Encrypting a Database

You are offered a list of all known, currently unencrypted, databases on your PDA.

PDASafe MainMenu Choose DB Dialog

Check all of those you wish to encrypt at this time.

Check the preferred button if you want PDA Safe to remember the selection that you make.

Push the Continue button.

You are now prompted to enter a password. Your password should be at least 6 characters long. For security, the password you use should not be the same password that you (optionally) use to secure your PDA. Push the OK button.

Entering encrypting password Password error

An information box will be displayed if you have entered a password that does not comply with the rule for password formation.

When the password is accepted, encryption begins. Depending on the size of your database, this may take some time. You will receive a notification box stating 'Encryption Successfully Finished' upon completion. Push the OK button.

Your data is now securely encrypted.

Decrypting a Database

Decrypting a database follows exactly the same path as encrypting except that, from the main form, you would select the 'Decrypt' check box.

We strongly recommend that, once you have finished using your PDA, you encrypt your data.

PDA SAFE IS A SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE APPLICATION. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE, FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS ADVICE MAY RESULT IN IRRETRIEVABLE LOSS OF DATA

ALWAYS un-encrypt a database PRIOR to adding, editing or deleting information.

ALWAYS un-encrypt your data BEFORE performing Hot Sync.

ALWAYS encrypt your databases when you are done using them.

Note: Attempts to open any of the currently encrypted databases will show an unpopulated database to which you may still add data. However, any information that you do add WILL BE LOST WHEN YOU UN-ENCRYPT THE ORIGINAL DATA. Data lost in this way cannot be retrieved.

If you attempt to HotSync while your databases are still encrypted, your desktop data WILL BE OVERWRITTEN WITH EMPTY DATABASES.
